Vinyl Wednesday: Terror – Legion of Gore

TERROR!!!

This is a pretty cool pick for Vinyl Wednesday. Terror, the Cleveland-based death/thrash metal band (not the LA-based hardcore band) comes out with a total rager at the end of 2015. Legion of Gore is a whopping 2 songs but they are totally killer. Re-recorded versions of demos that are 27 years old. Tell me, how can you beat that? I picked this up after seeing a post online from the fella who did backing vocals and I decided to give it a shot. I had heard of them but never listened to any of their tunes. I am now sad it’s taken me so long.

The artwork on the front cover is a painting by Antichrist Kramer entitled “Sanguimantic Heir To The Walachian Throne”. Yeah. How’s that for some weird shit? There is a pretty cool type treatment on the back jacket to check out too.

The vinyl is listed as Red & Black marble but it’s really a “merge” pressing. Not sure why the mix up.

Anyway, give it a look-see and then go out a buy your copy as quick as possible.

Vinyl Wednesday: Decibel Flexi-Series

Standard

VinylWednesday-Flexi_1

I have a bit of a different Vinyl Wednesday this time. Last winter I received a subscription to Decibel Magazine and I was introduced to flexi-discs. The magazine is full of extreme metal stories, articles on some neat people/subjects and it also features a flexi-disc in every issue. While it may be a bit of a gimmick or a novelty to some, the music is very real, very heavy and usually high-quality. Each Decibel Flexi-Series release features an exclusive track from the chosen artist. Something that won’t be found on any official release from the band. Good stuff if you ask me. Most bands just have one song but there are some exceptions. In the case of Iron Reagan (above) the subscribers were treated to a full-13 track EP. Songs are obviously insanely short if you can fit 13 tracks onto a 4–6 minute flexi but that’s fine by me. The more heavy tunes that are available the better. Rip out the flexi from the magazine and get it spinning while browsing the issue. Good times can be had by all.

Vinyl Wednesday is back!

This week I have a real doozy too. Some of my favorite album covers of all time are Judas Priest albums that featured some kind of weird illustration and the selection this week doesn’t let down. Screaming For Vengeance is bright, bold and totally kickass. This is mostly a photo post so hit the jump and bask in this album’s glory!

Vinyl Wednesday: Record Store Day 2014

Standard

RSD_2014

This past Saturday (April 19) was Record Store Day 2014. Some people like to save up all year and buy a bunch of special releases and whatnot. To me, it’s just another weekend day at the record store only this time I spent more than normal. Luckily I like Metal music. Also lucky for me is that not a lot of other people do. Sure, the releases that really grab my attention are few and far between but I honestly walked away with everything I wanted this year and that has NEVER happened before.

Vinyl Wednesday: Ringworm – Birth Is Pain

2014_02_19-Pre1

For the first Vinyl Wednesday post at this new blogging home I have decided to change up the format a little bit. This is going to be one of those posts where I talk more about the album and less about the design. I’m not totally abandoning the nerdy design and illustration talk, but overall this album means more to me than just that artsy-fartsy stuff and I want to give the story behind my love for it the proper attention it deserves.
